AI Text Rewriter

Rewrites a passage to one named standard — plainer, shorter, formal, friendly or active voice — and prints the instruction it was given.

This tool needs JavaScript: a model does the rewriting, and the prompt is printed with the result.

Up to about two pages. Longer than that, do it a section at a time: the result is better.

Each one is a written instruction, printed with the result so you can see what was asked for.

Result

This is one of the few tools here that asks the server rather than your browser, because a browser cannot do it. Nothing you put in is stored; the request is rate limited by address and the answer is not cached.

Five rewrites, each one a written instruction rather than a mood: plainer, shorter, formal, friendly, active voice. The instruction is printed with the result, so you can see what was actually asked for and disagree with it.

How to use

Paste a passage, pick the standard, read both versions side by side before using either.

Example

Style plainer — Rewrite it in plain English: short sentences,
everyday words, active voice, no jargon that has a common
                                           equivalent. Keep every fact.
Length 84 words in, 61 out, -27%

A 27 percent cut with every fact intact is what plain English usually looks like. If the count barely moves, the original was already plain and the rewrite is not worth taking.

Pitfalls

Compare before you paste. A rewrite can quietly drop the qualifier that made a sentence true. The model is told not to invent facts; it cannot check the ones it keeps.

Shorter is not always better. “Cut by a third” removes filler first and detail second, and the second is where meaning goes. Read the result against the original rather than counting words.

Active voice is not a rule. “Mistakes were made” is evasive; “the transaction was declined” is correct, because the bank is not the subject of your sentence. The active-voice rewrite changes every passive construction, which is why it is a separate option rather than part of the others.

Your voice is not a style. These five are conventions. A house voice comes from editing, and a model copying a paragraph of yours is not the same as having one.

Do not paste anything confidential. The passage is sent to a model provider. Nothing is stored here, and the provider’s own terms are theirs.

British spelling survives, mostly. The model is told to keep the language it was given. Check the result if that matters to you: this is the instruction most often ignored.

This spends the site owner’s money. Each rewrite is a model call with a cost, capped daily and monthly, with the cost printed at the bottom.

Compatibility

Up to 6,000 characters a go, which is about two pages. Beyond that the tool asks you to do it a section at a time, which produces better writing anyway: a model given two pages loses the thread in the middle.

The prompts are written down in the plugin rather than assembled at runtime, and each is printed with its result. The model is told to answer with the text alone: no preamble, no explanation, no quotation marks.

Cost comes from the tokens the provider reports, counted against a monthly ceiling the site owner sets. When it is reached the tool says so and stops. The key lives on the server and never reaches the browser.

Frequently asked questions

Which style should I use?
Plainer, for almost everything published on the web. Shorter when you already know it is too long. Formal only when the document genuinely calls for it.
Will it change my facts?
It is instructed not to, and it has no way to verify them. Read the result.
Does it detect AI writing?
No, and neither does anything else reliably. Detection tools produce false positives on plain prose and on non-native English in particular.
Can I rewrite the same passage twice?
Yes, and it costs twice. Rewriting a rewrite tends to flatten the text: each pass moves it further from whatever made it yours.
Is my text stored?
Not here. It is sent to the provider for the call and forgotten; the counters hold numbers only.
